Hot cars, hot chili, golf tournament highlight big Mesquite weekend

Hot cars, hot chili and a golf tournament are headed for Mesquite this weekend highlighting a full schedule of events.

Sponsored by the Mesquite Resort Association, the annual Mesquite Motor Mania Friday through Sunday is expected to draw more than 600 entries from several states with vehicles featured at the CasaBlanca, Oasis, Virgin River and Eureka hotel casinos. More than $15,000 in prize money and 260 trophies will be distributed to the top entrants.

In addition, Sunday’s schedule includes the inaugural $5,000 Smokin’ Big Chili Challenge near the CasaBlanca Event Center with competition in Red Chili, Chili Verde, Salsa and People’s Choice categories. Sanctioned by the International Chili Society, the event is expected to draw more than 40 teams from all over the country.

The People’s Choice element benefits the Mesquite Cancer HELP Society which aids local patients who are fighting cancer. Tasting kits will be available for $5 with tasting scheduled from noon until 3 p.m.
